We like to believe we help.

That weโ€™re supporting.

Guiding.

Doing whatโ€™s best.

But if you look closerโ€”

many times, itโ€™s not about them.

Itโ€™s about us.

About the discomfort we feel.

The tension we donโ€™t want to sit with.

The situation we donโ€™t know how to handle.

So we try to change it.

We try to change them.

Not always in obvious ways.

Sometimes it looks like advice.

Like concern.

Like wanting the best.

But underneathโ€”

thereโ€™s a need.

For things to be different.

For things to be easier.

For things to stop affecting us.

And instead of facing what that brings upโ€ฆ

we act.

We intervene.

We push.

We try to โ€œhelpโ€.

But help that is not asked forโ€ฆ

is rarely about the other person.

Itโ€™s about avoiding something in ourselves.

So the question is not

whether your intention is good.

Itโ€™s this:

Are you really supporting someoneโ€”

or trying to change them

so you donโ€™t have to face

what this situation is showing you?
